The Calpe Local Police carried out 609 interventions for gender violence in 2025, reinforcing their work to protect victims
The Calpe Local Police closed 2025 with a total of 609 interventions related to cases of gender violence. These actions are part of the daily prevention, monitoring and protection work carried out by the police force in coordination with the Civil Guard and municipal social services.
In terms of risk levels, the protocol establishes different categories (low, medium, high and extreme). The Calpe Local Police is responsible for monitoring low-risk cases, while medium, high and extreme levels are handled by the Civil Guard. Fifty-seven per cent of gender-based violence cases recorded in the municipality are classified as low risk, and the monthly average remains at around 108 active cases. In 2025, only one case of extreme risk was recorded, and so far in 2026, none have been recorded.
Throughout 2025, the Local Police carried out 490 VPERSS (Police Assessment of Risk Evolution) actions, which are periodic reassessments of risk in already active cases of gender-based violence. These assessments allow the level of protection to be updated according to the evolution of the situation of the victim and the aggressor. When a VPERSS detects an increase in risk, the police report the situation to the court and the protection measures are reinforced, for example, from a medium risk to a high risk.
Calpe Local Police officers are authorised to conduct personal risk assessment interviews and determine the most appropriate protection measures in each case. In addition, they provide support and protection through surveillance at the home or workplace, accompaniment to court hearings or health centres, and regular telephone contact to check whether any new incidents have occurred.
Another area of action is monitoring compliance with restraining orders and precautionary measures agreed by the judicial authorities. The Local Police verify that the aggressor respects the imposed distances and, in many cases, manage the information from telematic devices, such as Cometa bracelets. There is currently one active case involving this device, which is used when the court establishes a high or extreme risk and sets a security perimeter, usually of 200 or 300 metres. If the aggressor crosses this boundary, an alert is sent via 112 to the local police and the Civil Guard, who go to the scene to check whether the breach was accidental or intentional.
During 2025, there were also 19 interventions for possible situations of gender-based violence in public spaces, in which officers acted in response to calls from citizens or incidents detected in public places, applying the established protection and referral protocols.
Along with these measures, Calpe Town Council has an ATEMPRO telephone service, managed through the municipal social services. In this case, the victim requests the service from the Social Welfare Department itself. The device is provided by the Red Cross and allows for continuous and secure contact, as it enables the police and specialised services to make regular calls, either daily or every other day, to check on the victim's condition and act quickly in the event of any incident.
With these resources and devices, Calpe Town Council is reinforcing its commitment to the fight against gender-based violence, combining police action, social support and coordination with other administrations to ensure the maximum possible protection for women at risk and their families.

The Governing Board approves the protocol for activating CECOPAL
Last Friday, the Local Governing Board approved the protocol for activating the Municipal Operational Coordination Centre (CECOPAL), the body responsible for coordinating the City Council's actions in emergency situations and whose main function is to direct and organise all municipal resources to provide a rapid and effective response.
The protocol sets out the structure of CECOPAL, which is headed by the Mayor's Office, the competent authority for activating the mechanism, appointing the members of the Advisory Committee and determining the orders and measures to be taken. The Municipal Emergency Headquarters is headed by the Chief of the Calpe Local Police, who assumes the executive power to implement the instructions and agreements adopted within CECOPAL.
The structure is completed by an Advisory Committee made up of the Department of Public Safety, the Local Police Headquarters, Civil Protection, the Department of Infrastructure, the Department of Health, the Department of the Environment and the Department of Education. At the same time, an Information Committee is set up, made up of the Department of Communication and the Municipal Communication Department.
The document establishes the Town Hall meeting room as the headquarters of CECOPAL. However, in the event of a power cut or technical impossibility of communication, its members must move as quickly as possible to the Advanced Command Post, located at the Local Police headquarters.
The protocol also lists the municipal resources that can provide logistical support in an emergency, such as the municipal brigades, the Animal Protection Service, municipal machinery and vehicles, as well as sports facilities that can be used as shelters, among others.
It should be noted that in September 2023, Calpe Town Council approved the Municipal Territorial Emergency Plan, the Municipal Forest Fire Action Plan, the Municipal Flood Action Plan and the Municipal Seismic Risk Action Plan. These documents regulate the response to each type of emergency, and the newly approved protocol will apply to all of them.
The Councillor for Public Safety, Guillermo Sendra, pointed out that "CECOPAL is the municipal body responsible for directing and coordinating action in emergency situations. In view of the repeated alerts in recent months, such as strong winds, heavy rain and other incidents, we considered it appropriate to draw up a document establishing the basic guidelines for its activation, in order to unify criteria, determine who its members are, define its powers and clarify its composition. All this with the aim of being prepared for any emergency situation."

Calpe announces the 3rd Villa de Calpe Sculpture Competition with a prize of €7,000€
The Culture Department of the Calpe Town Council has announced the III National Sculpture Competition ‘Villa de Calpe’, an initiative that seeks to promote the work of sculptors from all over the country and, at the same time, contribute to the beautification of the historic centre of the municipality, as the winning work is expected to be installed there.
The competition offers a single prize of €7,000 and is open to artists of any nationality residing in Spain. Collectively created works will also be accepted. Each artist or collective may submit up to a maximum of three works, which may be of any theme and aesthetic style. Bearing in mind that the final sculpture will be located outdoors, materials must be used that will not deteriorate over time and will withstand exposure to the elements.
The registration period ends on 18 March, and those interested must submit a standardised application form for the competition, SUB16: Competition Registration Form, via the Calpe Town Council's website, together with three photos or sketches of the work. After analysing the entries in a second phase, the jury will select the works submitted, and those selected must submit an unsigned model by 19 June to the Jaume Pastor i Fluixà cultural centre, unsigned, with a slogan and in a sealed envelope.
When deciding the winner of the competition, the jury will assess criteria such as the artistic quality of the work, the creativity of the author, the innovation and originality of the work, its expressive power, the sculptural technique used, the treatment of the material, and the use of materials that can withstand outdoor exposure.
The winning work will become the property of Calp Town Council, forming part of its heritage.
Those interested can consult the competition rules on the notice board of the municipal website: www.calp.es.
Calpe Town Council, Fishermen's Guild and Aguas de Calpe sign agreement for a plastic-free sea
Calpe Town Council, Fishermen's Guild and Aguas de Calpe sign agreement for a plastic-free sea
Calpe Town Council, the Fishermen's Guild and Aguas de Calpe have signed a collaboration agreement to recognise and reinforce the marine waste removal work that professionals in the fishing sector have been carrying out for years as part of their daily activities. The agreement allows the service to be structured, its management to be improved and financial support to be provided to ensure its continuity.
The accumulation of plastics in the sea is a threat to the marine ecosystem, affecting biodiversity and fishing activity. Thanks to this agreement, the removal of this waste is optimised before it breaks down into microplastics, contributing to the conservation of species and the marine environment.
The fishermen of the Calpe Fishermen's Association will continue to play a key role, locating, collecting and removing waste during their working days, as they have been doing on a regular basis. In addition, they will be responsible for delivering the waste to authorised waste managers and raising awareness among other fishermen and the public about the importance of protecting the sea.
Aguas de Calpe will contribute €8,000 to the Fishermen's Guild during the 2026 financial year for seabed cleaning and waste collection activities. The agreement therefore represents institutional recognition and improvement of work that has been contributing for years to keeping the Calpe coastline cleaner and healthier.
The signing of the agreement was attended by the Mayor, Ana Sala, the Head of the Fishermen's Guild, Paco Catalá, the Councillor for Fisheries, Mariola Mulet, and the Councillor for the Integral Water Cycle, Ximo Perles.

Calpe Town Council discusses coastal planning for the municipality with the Ministry for Ecological Transition
Last week, representatives from Calpe Town Council travelled to Madrid for a working meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), with the aim of directly addressing the future of the municipality's coastline. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Director General for Coastal Protection, Fernando Pérez Burgos, and the Head of the Alicante Coastal Authority, Rosa de los Ríos Jimeno, together with the Mayoress of Calpe, Ana Sala, the Environment Councillor Pere Moll, and municipal technical staff.
One of the main issues discussed was the regeneration of Arenal-Bol beach, which underwent its last comprehensive restoration thirty years ago. The Town Council conveyed the need to promote lasting and sustainable solutions, supported by technical studies on the behaviour of sea currents and designed with the utmost respect for the Posidonia seagrass meadows. The municipal authority's intention is to prioritise interventions that mimic natural coastal processes and provide medium- and long-term stability.
The project to improve the Fossa promenade, currently in the design phase, was also analysed. It is being developed in accordance with criteria of universal accessibility and landscape integration, avoiding any impact on the public maritime-terrestrial domain.
During the meeting, the legal situation of the La Manzanera Social Club and its compliance with current regulations was also discussed. The Town Council expressed its willingness to rigorously study all possible alternatives, always defending the general interest and guaranteeing safety for users and the environment.
With this meeting, the government team reaffirms its commitment to the defence and responsible planning of the Calpe coastline, working in coordination with other administrations to ensure that future actions on beaches and coastal areas are carried out with criteria of environmental sustainability and legal certainty.
The Mayoress of Calpe, Ana Sala, stressed that ‘we are working closely and in coordination with the supra-municipal administrations to ensure that every action on our coastline is responsible, sustainable and designed to improve Calpe.’
For his part, the Environment Councillor Pere Moll, stressed that ‘our commitment is clear: to move forward with solutions that protect the environment and strengthen our beaches without causing unnecessary impact, focusing on interventions that respect and improve our natural environment.’

Calpe Town Council reinforces its commitment to Ukraine at the Global Forum for Reconstruction held in Madrid
Calpe Town Council took part in the second edition of the Global Forum for the Reconstruction of Ukraine held in Madrid on 25 February, consolidating its involvement with the Ukrainian community residing in the municipality and its support for the peace and reconstruction process in the country.
Representing the mayoress, Ana Sala, was the Councillor for European Residents, Twinning and European Projects, Marco Bittner, who took part in a working day attended by around 30 Ukrainian mayors, as well as representatives of Spanish companies and institutions, with the aim of promoting specific economic, social and humanitarian cooperation projects.
Calpe's presence at this forum is part of the close relationship that the municipality maintains with the Ukrainian community, which comprises 1,447 registered residents, one of the largest foreign communities in the local register. The Town Council emphasises that this participation responds to the desire to convey to international decision-makers the reality of daily coexistence between the citizens of Calpe and the Ukrainian population settled in the town.
This commitment has recent precedents. In 2024, Calpe received an official visit from Ivan Pilyak, mayor of Skhidnytsia (Lviv province), within the framework of the agreement between the Federation of M
This commitment has recent precedents. In 2024, Calpe received an official visit from Ivan Pilyak, mayor of Skhidnytsia (Lviv province), as part of the agreement between the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid and the Mayors Club of Ukraine. That visit marked the beginning of an institutional relationship that the City Council has continued to cultivate over the years through ongoing dialogue and the exploration of possible areas of collaboration.
In this new edition of the Forum, Calpe has taken a further step by signing a declaration of friendship with the Ukrainian municipality of Chornomorsk, a port city on the Black Sea, in a ceremony presided over by its mayor, Vasyl Huliaiev. This document lays the foundations for future institutional collaboration between the two cities, with a view to moving towards a formal twinning. The exchange of symbolic gifts during the ceremony served to demonstrate the desire to continue this relationship over time and to translate it into specific projects.
At the same time, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion, Calpe Town Council has taken stock of the integration of the Ukrainian community in the municipality, highlighting the labour and social integration of many of these people, the creation of associations and mutual support groups, and the stable collaboration between the council and this group in the daily life of the town.
The Councillor for European Residents, Twinning and European Projects, Marco Bittner, pointed out that ‘to attract investment, we must provide security, and providing security begins with sending a clear message of fraternity and cordiality between the two countries. What the Spanish State does at the national level, we municipalities must do at the human and everyday level’
Workshops, exhibitions, talks and training to celebrate International Women's Day
Calpe Town Council is today launching its programme of events to mark 8 March, International Women's Day, with an agenda that includes workshops, exhibitions, talks, participatory activities and specialised training. The programme kicks off with the workshop ‘A journey through women's rights in Spain’, aimed at users of the Civic Centre and run by the Equality Unit.
On Friday 6 March, the exhibition ‘Pioneers of Feminism in Spain’ will open in the exhibition hall of the Ajuntament Vell, a journey through the history and legacy of women who marked a turning point in the fight for equality. The exhibition has been loaned by Aula Violeta de Dones de Acció de Xirivella.
On Monday 9 March, there will be an open mic event called ‘Alcem la veu’ (Raise your voice), a space created for sharing personal stories, reflections and first-hand experiences. Calpe Town Council invites women of all ages to take part in this initiative, which is designed to listen to, accompany and give voice to different experiences. The brief, pre-coordinated presentations will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Casal de las Asociaciones.
On Thursday, 12 March, at 7 p.m., the Ajuntament Vell will host the talk ‘Abolition of the commodification of women's bodies’, by Vanessa Silva and María Arena. In addition, from 17 to 31 March, the streets of the Old Town will host the urban exhibition ‘Elles–constel·lació poètica’, a selection from Anna Ballester's anthology.
Specialised training is also part of this programme with a specialisation course on criminal law and gender violence, which will be taught from 23 to 27 March by Juan Antonio Jover Pinar and Vicente Magro.
On Friday 27 March, the Women's Association for Equality will organise an open literary discussion on Tara Westover's book ‘Una educación’ (An Education). The meeting will take place at 10:30 am at the Ajuntament Vell.
The programme will culminate with two workshops aimed at students from IES Ifach and IES Les Salines: ‘Mercado de Mujeres’ (Women's Market), a workshop to raise awareness about human trafficking for sexual exploitation, led by María Arenas; and the intergenerational workshop ‘Pasado, presente y futuro de los derechos de las mujeres’ (Past, Present and Future of Women's Rights).
The 8M programme has been organised by Calpe Town Council in collaboration with the Calpe Women's Association for Equality.

Calpe Town Council will install 67 solar streetlights on the main roads of the Canuta, Canuta Alta and Canuta Ifach residential areas
Calpe Town Council plans to install a total of 67 solar streetlights in the Canuta, Canuta Alta and Canuta Ifach residential areas. The aim is to improve and, in some cases, provide lighting for certain roads in these areas of Calpe that have poor or non-existent lighting. To this end, it has opted for this type of streetlight with the aim of improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of public lighting.
The streetlights will be installed on four roads in these residential areas, the main and longest ones, such as the TR04, located in Canuta Alta, where 17 streetlights will be installed, the TR17 and TR03 in Canuta, which will be equipped with 15 and 14 lights respectively, and the TR05 in Canuta Ifach, where a total of 21 are planned. Likewise, some of the existing solar streetlights that are defective and located at various points in the area will be dismantled and transferred to the municipal warehouse for inspection and/or recycling.
The council has now put this contract out to tender, which will involve the purchase and installation of 67 solar lights, as well as their maintenance for at least one year. It has a base budget of €149,614.49 and companies interested in submitting bids may do so until 20 March.
This project is part of the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Next Generation EU funds.
Calp Town Council plans to continue investing in lighting for residential areas. In fact, the remaining treasury funds will be used to pay for solar streetlights in Enginent and Ortembach residential areas, as well as LED lighting for other residential areas.
